SalahBuddy Privacy Policy

SalahBuddy helps you find nearby masjids and their iqamah times, kept current by volunteers. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to ask us to delete it.

Location

We read your device location to find masjids near you. Your coordinates are sent to our server as part of that search but your raw coordinates are never stored against your identity. We do record a coarse map cell derived from the search area, not tied to any account, so we know which areas have already been searched.

Signing in

You can browse SalahBuddy without an account. Signing in with Google or Apple is only needed to contribute, confirm, or favorite iqamah times. When you sign in, we store your display name, email address, and an identifier from Google or Apple that lets us recognize you on return visits.

Your display name appears publicly next to edits you make (for example, "Updated by Jane"). Your email address is never shown publicly.

Favorites

Marking a masjid as one of your favorites is stored against your account, and is used to send you reminders if that masjid's times go stale and need an update. Because a favorite reveals which masjid you likely attend, we treat it the same as any other account data below: kept until you ask us to delete it, never sold or shared.

Contributions, reports, and moderation

Iqamah time updates, problem reports, confirmations, and thanks you send are stored and linked to your account, so we can maintain an audit trail and address disputes fairly. If a submission needs moderation, records of that review, any strikes issued, and account ban status are also stored against your account.

Push notifications

If you grant notification permission while signed in, we store your device's push token so we can send occasional reminders, such as a nudge that a masjid's times may need an update. Delivering these requires passing the token and message through Expo's push notification service, which relays it to Apple's notification service (APNs) for delivery to your device. Both are third-party processors acting on our behalf.

Anonymous analytics

The app generates a random installation ID, unrelated to your name or account, and uses it to send basic usage events (such as which screens you visit) to help us understand how the app is used. These events include coarse region information, your network's country and your device's locale region, never precise location. We also use a one-way hash of your IP address, which we do not store in readable form, to prevent abuse of this system. You can reset your installation ID any time from the About screen's "Reset analytics ID" control.

What we don't do

• We never sell your data.
• We never share your data with advertisers.

Where data lives

SalahBuddy runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure (Workers and D1 database). Masjid discovery data comes in part from Google Places.

Retention

We keep your data until you ask us to delete it. Contact us using the details below and we'll remove your account and associated data.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, at any time. Email us using the address below and we'll respond and act on your request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the effective date above when we do.
